The story of Jesus washing his disciples' feet might strike us as a tender story of loving service (which it certainly is). But it is far more than that. While betrayal and denial are operative in the room, Jesus puts his own safety second to his love for his disciples. What kind of gritty courage does it take to love someone who might reject you?
